The word “Reiki” is an amalgam of two Japanese words ~ “rei” and “ki.” “Rei” is usually translated as:  spirit, transcendent, or higher source. “Ki” is most often translated as: vital energy or life force energy. Therefore, rei-ki means spiritual or transcendent life force energy or vital energy that comes from a higher source.

The Reiki System was founded and organized by Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk, in Japan in the early 1920’s.

The rei-ki energy is focused by the practitioners to certain areas on or above the body using gentle, non-invasive hands-on techniques.  The spiritual life force (rei-ki energy) acts as a catalyst and reorganizes chaotic, stagnant, congested, or de-vitalized areas into greater well-being, harmony and balance
